The University of Milan will organize a summer school to enhance sustainable approach in vadose zone hydrology and groundwater vulnerability.
The two-week-long event will focus on the following:

Week 1: June 17 – June 21 – Vadose zone modelling

Examples of modelling, overview of available approaches and codes. Assessment of the peculiarity of groundwater flow in unsaturated media and its impact on groundwater quantity and quality. Analytical solutions and numerical modelling. Theory and practice. One-day field trip (vadose zone monitoring site and MAR system).

Week 2: June 24 – June 28 – Aquifer vulnerability

Review of key concepts of groundwater vulnerability. Spatial statistical models (e.g., logistic regression, Weights of Evidence, Random Forest). The time component, creating the conceptual model. The development of predictive scenarios. Theory and practice.
