Due to the virus outbreak of COVID-19, the Current Results of Environmental Sciences in the Carpathian Basin conference was held online between 4 to 6 June 2020.

The aims of the conference are to present the latest results of environmental research in the Carpathian Basin and to discuss theoretical and practical problems, and raising awareness in environmental problems, education and public understanding of research results.

The hydrogeology group of ELTE was represented by Katalin Csondor, Petra Baják, Hana Ben Mahrez (PhD students) and Sikandar Hayat (MSc student).

They all held presentations in the following topics: 

Petra Baják: “The natural radioactivity of groundwater from a hydrogeological point of view

Hana Ben Mahrez: “The role of regional groundwater flow in the transport and accumulation processes, case study of Ebes area, Eastern Hungary

Sikandar Hayat: “Role of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) to Alleviate Watertable in Loralai and Hangol Basins, Baluchistan, Pakistan

Katalin Csondor: “Natural radioactivity of riverbank filtered drinking water supply systems – a new challenge

According to the Scientific Committee, Katalin Csondor won first prize with her presentation.

Although the conference could not take place in the traditional way this year, it provided new opportunities and new experiences for students and young researchers as well. The online platform also provided a great opportunity for initiating cooperation in international research activities, learning and experience for students in communication on international level in their field of research.
