The first online workshop of ENeRAG on Environmental Isotope Tracers in Hydrogeological Applications held between 5 and 9 October 2020 has raised great interest worldwide. Initially meant as a face to face workshop with two day field trips between the consortium companies of ENeRAG, because of the pandemic situation, it has been organized online and accessible to project outsiders. Approximately 170 participants of the 250 applicants had been selected, more than half had participated actively in the workshop.

The courses had been intense and the content extensive. Besides theoretical aspects, practical exercises, laboratory and field virtual visits have enriched the program. Some moments of the workshops are here collected.

Within the session on “Isotope Hydrology/Hydrogeology and Analytical Techniques” a moment of the presentation on “Isotope analyses the process of O&H with Picarro. Analysis results of water samples, checking, corrections and validation; video clips” by M. Tiljander.

On the second day within the session on “Hydrogeology, Other Environmental Tracers and Modelling Tools” a shot of the presentation of “Principles of flow and transport in porous and fractured media; Type of environmental tracers and their applications in hydrogeology” by D. Pedretti.

On the third day within the “Open line for discussion, questions, exercises and networking” the resolution of the exercise proposed on Monday by professor K. Korkka-Niemi had been illustrated by A. Zoltan assistant professor from ELTE. (D. Pedretti / M. Tiljander / Y. Lahaye / R. Kietäväinen / N. Hendriksson)

On Thursday within the Session on “Managed Aquifer Recharge and Isotope and Geochemical Techniques” a clip from the presentation on “Isotopes and MAR: Estimating mixing ratios and residence times using the stable isotopes in water; Exercise” by P. Niinikoski-Fusswinkel is here visible.

After this, a moment of the virtual/lecture visit to the managed aquifer recharge (MAR) facility by Turun Seudun Vesi (Turku Region Water) OY (O. Puurunen /S. Saraperä / A. Artimo, TSV). The virtual tour is not public for security reasons but the concept is shown in a video.

On the last day of the workshop on the session about “Managed Aquifer Recharge and Isotope and Geochemical Techniques (Cont’)” the presentation by Lotta Purkamo “MAR and microbes” opened the door to understanding better biological aspects.
